Si Beckwith is a stand-up comedian and writer from Newcastle Upon Tyne. Si has been tour support for Carl Hutchinson, Janine Harouni, Gavin Webster, Nabil Abdulrashid, Sukh Ojla and Eric Neumann, was a Harrogate Comedian of the Year finalist and has written and performed in a number of sketches for BBC Newcastle.
Solo shows Get Lush and Bricks both played at various venues across the North East, with Bricks heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2024. Si was awarded Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice funding in 2023 to develop as a new writer for theatre. Si was selected to take part in the BFI and Film Hub North's Script Lab 2024 writer development programme.
Si is a respected comic and a renowned compere owing to his warm, effortless, sharp crowdwork and quick wit. Inventive, creative material and a masterful storyteller, Si is on a huge upward trajectory making waves in comedy and has a real knack for making exciting things happen.
A much sought after compère, host, interviewer and warm-up, Si’s effortless ability to inject energy and warmth into a room has gained him plenty of trust of being tremendously adept at holding a show together. He’s interviewed some massive names and some of his heroes over the years too, including Mick Foley, Demetri Martin, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and a lot more besides.
As a podcaster and producer, Si has created The Greatest Film You’ve Never Seen (with Ken McGuinness), Si & Harry’s Mixtape (with Harry Ford) and Grease 2 Is The Word (with Kelly Rickard). All have received thousands of listens and had loyal followings. Pulling in some huge guests for The Greatest Film You’ve Never Seen, and in an absolutely peak moment of achieving ones lifetime dreams, interviewing the writer of songs from cult film Grease 2 for Grease 2 Is The Word. Si teamed up again with Kelly Rickard and Omar Abid for MAFSLessons, a podcast all about Married At First Sight. One short series garnered thousands of listens, a #10 place on the Apple Podcast charts for TV and Film and interviews with experts and cast members of the show as well as mainstream coverage on BBC Radio and national press. Mosh Pet sees Si teaming up with radio journalist Ellie Kumar to discuss all things alt music and culture. While One Tattoo Please has Si and tattoo artist Jamie Smith talking all things tattoos and tattooing.
Si has also worked as a freelancer programming a remarkably popular cultural events programme for Newcastle Castle, working in audience development for Alphabetti Theatre and as an editor for NARC Magazine. He also lead on audience development for renowned arts organisation The Cultural Spring. His passion for the arts and the North East, as well as the role the arts plays in community engagement have lead to a strong working relationship with a number of venues and arts projects in the region.
As a writer, Si has written articles for the likes of Buzzfeed, WhatCulture, NARC Magazine, NE1 Magazine, NEVolume Magazine and more. Seeing articles ‘go viral’ for Buzzfeed and WhatCulture and reaching a massive audience with his words.
With North East comedy so vitally important to him, Si was a founding member and director of the world’s only not-for-profit comedy co-operative and community interest company Felt Nowt. A collective made up of North East comedians.
In 2022, Si took up a role as Trustee of The Exchange Theatre in North Shields, seeking to further support arts and culture in the North East with his knowledge and experience. He also joined the board of The Queen’s Hall in Hexham as a trustee in 2022 and joined North Tyneside Art Studio as a trustee in 2024.
Si has written and performed in sketches for both radio and stage with writing, acting, sketch writing and script editing all key skills Si has brought to the table for a number of years.
As a writer, Si was funded through Arts Council England in the Developing Your Creative Practice round of funding in 2023. This saw him mentored by the North East’s best theatre writers as a new writer to theatre. Off the back of this, he was shortlisted in 2023 (with Gavin Webster) for Laurel’s Theatre’s £10k Richard Jenkinson Commission and awarded a bursary from Alphabetti Theatre. Si was also selected to take part in the BFI and Film Hub North's Script Lab 2024 writer development programme to develop a short film script.
First and foremost though, Si Beckwith loves comedy and loves making people laugh. Si Beckwith loves being a stand-up comedian.
